Hazardous waste can be directly harmful to health or can cause long term damage to the environment - it is therefore essential that hazardous waste is disposed of correctly.
The following waste types are classed as hazardous:
- Engine Oil
- Electrical items
- Car Batteries
- Household Batteries
- Household Chemicals
re3 will accept small amounts of hazardous waste from your household. Please see the Waste Acceptance Leaflet (available to download below) for more information about the amounts of hazardous waste re3 are able to accept from households.
If you want to bring asbestos to site you must call re3 on 0800 9883023 to prebook. Bookings slots are available at both sites Monday to Friday and are pre allocated to either AM (8am - 9am) or PM (3pm - 4pm). Booking slots are also available on Saturdays between 8am and 9am.
If you do not pre-book, you will be unable to dispose of your asbestos.
Only small amounts of asbestos can be accepted at the HWRC - the maximum is 6 sheets, of no greater size than 8'x4' (or equivalent). You can bring asbestos to site a maximum of twice per year.
Asbestos is extremely harmful to health and you are advised to always wear a mask and gloves when handling asbestos. Try not to break up the sheets and ensure that they are damped down with water. You must double wrap asbestos in thick, durable plastic sheeting (such as builders rubble bags) and seal well before bringing it to site.
If you do not wrap asbestos appropriately you will be asked by staff to leave site to re-wrap and re-book your waste.
If you have large amounts of asbestos, or are in any doubt about your safety when handling asbestos, please seek professional assistance.
If you pay a business/trader to remove asbestos from your property, please remember that it is then the business'/trader's responsibility to dispose of the asbestos correctly.
Please call re3 on 0800 9883023 before bringing your household chemicals to site to ensure that there is enough capacity on site to store your chemicals.
