FCC Environment is committed to reducing the reliance on fossil fuels for the generation of electricity and looking for new ways to generate renewable energy with wind energy being one of these solutions.
Wind power is a renewable energy source.
The UK is signed up to the EU Renewable Energy Directive which means the UK now has to meet the following targets:
15% of all energy generated in the UK to come from renewable sources
30% of all electricity generated in the UK to come from renewable sources
As a result FCC Environment are making use of existing sites around the country such as reclaimed areas of landfill sites to build small wind turbines. These turbines are used to generate power that is sold back to the national grid and then used to power homes & businesses in the area.
