Sustainable waste solutions for businesses
FCC Environment is supporting businesses of all sizes across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire with tailored waste collections and treatment.
The service, on behalf of DS Smith Recycling, diverts 2,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste from landfill per year from 150 businesses to generate energy at FCC Environment’s Eastcroft energy from waste (EfW) facility in Nottingham.
DS Smith Recycling, part of the European integrated paper and packaging company DS Smith Group, is committed to helping its customers to implement sustainable waste management practices. The company turned to FCC Environment to provide a sustainable solution for non-recyclable waste to allow DS Smith Recycling to support its customers’ landfill diversion ambitions.
With a wide range of customers, from SMEs to large corporations, DS Smith Recycling needed a partner with both the collection and treatment capabilities to support over 150 businesses of all sizes across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
FCC Environment was able to offer the ideal solution.
FCC Environment gives businesses the right collection and treatment capabilities to meet their needs. It has an ambitious programme of securing waste streams through the development and expansion of a commercial and industrial collection service, and is introducing appropriate waste treatment infrastructure to support customers’ recycling and recovery needs.
In July 2012, FCC Environment’s business waste collection and treatment service was rolled out across the two counties to enhance the current services offered by DS Smith Recycling. Now, up to 2,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste per year can be diverted from unsustainable landfill into energy recovery, which helps the UK to meet its renewable energy and climate change commitments.
