About Kent Enviropower
Kent Enviropower Limited, a subsiduary of FCC Environment, operates the integrated waste management facility at Allington Quarry on the outskirts of Maidstone.
The facility acts as a waste transfer station for non-hazardous, clean recyclables from households and businesses while also operating an energy from waste plant. Here, materials separated by householders are sorted and sent for recycling with the remainder being used to generate electricity, which is utilised to power the facility and to supplement the local supply network.
Kent Enviropower operates the waste management facility to recover energy and transfer waste from non-hazardous waste streams in the surrounding area.
The facility can take up to 500,000 tonnes a year of non-hazardous waste from households and businesses in and around Kent for energy recovery. Up to 65,000 tonnes of mixed recyclates and food waste are transferred off site for further separation or compost.
The site was formerly a quarry and has a nature conversation area within its boundaries. As part of the planning application, Kent Enviropower donated 67 acres of land, which surround the site, to the local council to be maintained as the nature conservation area.
