Leading recycling and waste management company FCC Environment is now providing a waste management solution for Tata Steel, one of Europe’s largest steel manufacturers.
Tata Steel appointed FCC Environment to collect and treat all waste streams from its South Yorkshire sites for a period of two years. The deal, which started at the beginning of 2014, will see FCC Environment roll out multiple recycling services across the sites whilst supporting Tata Steel to achieve recycling targets highlighted in its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
FCC Environment’s appointment will support Tata Steel in achieving its long term goal of zero waste to landfill. Segregation at source of both non hazardous and hazardous waste has been introduced at the site to improve recycling rates.
The European operations of Tata Steel, which has steelmaking sites in the UK and the Netherlands, is Europe's second largest steel producer. The combined Tata Steel group is one of the world’s largest steel producers, with an aggregate crude steel capacity of more than 29 million tonnes and approximately 80,000 employees across four continents.
Richard Jeffery, national sales manager at FCC Environment, said: “At FCC Environment, we work with businesses and organisations of all sizes to promote waste as a resource. We strive to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by providing integrated solutions for environmental services, delivering savings and added value to all our customers. ”
“We are delighted to be working with Tata Steel to offer a flexible and customer focused service.”
